It seems every time one of these politicians get caught dropping his britches you can count on a swollen-eyed ceremony with a house full of journalists to tell the world detail by detail. For the most part these are self-serving exhibits to provide a “come clean” cover for, in some cases, long time deception and copious lies. There is little regard for the feelings and the interest of victims such as wife, children, and family.
Will public figures never recognize the dignity of keeping quiet? Why the details? A tryst with a prostitute would be bad enough, but to make a wife suffer being emotionally dismissed in favor of another woman in public! Well, thats just too much. Plus, have your husbands love letters published in the states largest newspaper.
Years ago, I remember a Baptist preacher exclaiming the virtue of making quiet confessions when your sins involved others. He said, there was once a church deacon who become “sweet” on the church secretary and vice-versa. Then, one evening he kissed her in the church parking lot. The deacon, being tormented by his indiscretion, decided to confess and tell all before the whole congregation. Maybe this method of confession did give him the most relief, but the secretary never had the option.
